Reiki is a Japanese word that when translated is what we call Universal Life Energy (the intelligent energy that flows through all living things). As well as 'being' this universal energy it is also a method of healing, discovered and practiced by a Japanese man called Usui Sensei (Dr Mikao Usui). Through his dedication and work, today we now have a unique way of accessing and working with this universal energy as passed down from Reiki Master to Reiki Master since the death of Usui Sensei in 1926.
A Reiki Master uses a special technique called an 'attunement’ to enable the Reiki energy to be used by a Reiki practitioner. Once a practitioner is able to tap into this energy they can use the healing system to work with people who have requested Reiki healing. This can then bring about relief from their symptoms.
There are many factors today that increase the stress our bodies have to endure e.g. pollutants in the air/ chemicals in our food/ poor diet/ lack of exercise/ emotional stress & life styles, etc. This can all mount up until eventually our bodies become ill / dis-eased. The natural balance of all things has been lost. We suffer the symptoms of stress and anxiety, sleepless nights, arthritis, heart disease - just to name a few!
